Wichita Children’s Home (WCH) provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to children from birth to age 22, in and around communities in Wichita, Kansas. WCH is the only temporary residential emergency shelter in the Wichita community. Children are admitted by parents, law enforcement and social workers—and sometimes they admit themselves. If a parent is in crisis and has no one to care for their child on a moment’s notice, the WCH can step in.
The additional grant would be used to help with general operating costs and projects at Wichita Children’s Home. The money from the $1,000 grant was used to purchase a new stove for the Transitional Living Program at WCH. The program houses 17 young men and staff is present 24 hours a day to ensure safety, learning and education of these youth. The program teaches the young men skills like cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, making good decisions and helps them to complete high school.
